Ryan's big win

Okay...Ryan didn't win by himself. It's a 3 person math team at a competition they call Mathletics. Mathletics is against teams from other elementary schools. Our boys (Ryan, Matt, & Brandon) won first place for 6th grade pre-Algebra students. They beat 5 other elementary school teams that will go to our Jr. High.
The competition is like a sporting event except you don't know the final score until the end. The teams get the questions one at a time. They only get 2-4 minutes to work them. The answers are gathered when time is up. The announcer then gives the answer to the problem. I guess the goal is to make math fun like a sport.

The boys were excited about the win. I watched some of the competition & didn't think they were doing well. They weren't celebrating when the answers were given. Ryan explained they wanted to "play it cool" vs. other kids who jump up & down.
